Grade Summer Reading Assignment - Mrs. Cox
Kids who read
succeed! Research shows that the amount of time students
spend reading for fun is the key predictor of their academic
achievement. This means that reading a lot this summer will help you
in school!
Because reading this
summer is so important, you will get credit for the books you read.
The following is your summer reading assignment:
1. Read a
minimum of four books and at least 500 pages.
1) One book must be a biography or autobiography of your choice.
3) The other three books are free choice selections.
2. Keep a
reading journal. You may use this
form or make your own.
You can even keep your journal on computer and print it out to hand
in. The entry
for each book should include:
1) Title of the book (remember to underline titles)
2) Author
3) Number of pages
4) Your rating of the book on a scale of 1 to 10,
with 10 being the best.
5) A brief summary of the story using complete
sentences. This must be at least
two sentences long.
3. What if you
read more than four books or more than 500 pages? You will
receive extra credit for the journal entries on books you read over
the minimum!
4. You may make
additional copies of the reading journal
form, or you may write
your entries on another paper. Extra credit is given based on
the total number of pages you read.
5. You may make
a cover page for your journal but are not required to make one.
6. Total the
number of pages you read and write it after the last entry.
7. Bring your
journal on the first day of school in August.
8. Don't forget
to sign up for the summer reading program at the Tulsa City-County
Library.
